more questions 15th Nov

Rewview part one highlighting your successes and discoverles.

well my successes have got to be, photography, printing, and the instalation and my discoverles are pattern... and textiles i really didnt enjoy doing both of these nad just found them tedious and something i wasnt really intrested in, the making of i really really enjoy the disign aspect to textiles the finished products etc. and the instalation was something i can see my self doing for fun but thats it.

discribe the sort of work i'm going to be doing in part 2.

well the type of work i'm thinking of doing in the next part comes in two sections, firstly fastion photography but i really want to continue with my painting and do large scale painting becuase i belive that this will improve my eye in the camera and help me with the historical methods and humour in photography and art in general i dont want to limit my self to one skill.

are there any themes?

children in both and the beauty in uglyness.

will my work be in solving visual problems? and will i require a breif?

no no no, i have learnt that i' m not motivated by a breif becuase once i have completed the breif i shut down and dont work as well but if i just work and work i feel that i acomplish more in the time. and i dont like being told what to do.

what materials will i be working with?

dark room B/W images, degital photography, want to try waterbased oil paints becuase i have never really used and continue with acylic. mybe a few large charcoal.

which processes or workshops will i use?

well i dont really know painting and photography work shops? all i need is space for painting and all i need is a 3trird eye at times with my photography. and some time its nice to get another persons feed back.

which artists do i indent on studying?

have no idea... for painting i have always enjoyed van goghs motives for painting and his pholophisy, by you paint what you see and nothing more, and with photography i was going to try and create my own way of fashtion photography but by looking at, helmat nuton and bob carlos clarke.

my bibilography is on all the pages where i have used infomation in my blog. if theres other stuff about artists that knoglogy i have been tought from home or i just know.

Lecture The nature and influence of collections. 10th Nov

Today we talked about gallerys and musiums in London and Berlin.

the mosicm island in berlin is made up of 5 musiums, these are;

altes musium - collection of all the royal collection
newes musium.
alte national gallery - fine art painting.
bode musium - skulpture and Byzantiane.
the pergumon musium - which has most types of art and built during the world wars.

The were all really damaged during the world wars. Pergumin musium was disniged by looking at the peragon alter, which was from anceint greece. New musium has mainly anceint egyption like queen nefertiti which is a very symbolic image/ skulpture to anceitn egypitons. kouros statues which are very ridged skulptures.

British musium, the partheon marbles.

isles of lewis chess man none are in the islands that they were found!

the ishtor gate (oarganot musium came from iraq.

3. Photography? and Art only these nothing else only really would like to work for my self in the long run.

4. what are you person attribues and aspirations?

single/alone, self emplyed, romantic loner, independent, creative expressive, chaotic, informal but at the same time formal, self motivated.

what are you good at? what are you intrested in?

painting, sculptre, fashion design, photography mainly, painting.

Next year i would like to do a fine art degree because i want to continue my art base knology but i also want to do photography but i think after a year of just doing photography i will get bored of being in school thats why i would like to do a fine art degree but at the same time get a very good intern ship with a top fastion photographer. asperations to be like, bob carlos clarke or helmat nuton.

Finishing Fabric and Form. 9th Nov

Today we had to finish are fabric and form which i had already planned exatly what i was going to do today. today my plan was to get some basic fabric then use my cut plan which i write on my spread sheet. then to cut and sow basicly. thus making the worlds first trinagle bag, this is not an area i'm very intrested in so i find it hard to find insperation here.

Instalation 8th Nov

Today has by far been my best day so far for many reasons! firstly i really liked the group of people i was with this ment i could get alone and not feel stupid if i just said random ideas. And it ment i could pick poeple that i know would work together and all give equil amounts of effort for the project.

so we started off with a small space which we luckly got, we ran to have the best space in the whole room ( sad you may think or devoted you can choose ) this space had lights from both sides of the room. meaning we had the best lighting. which was deffently a bouns. then we, me, James Hillman, Chris Gray, Elliot Foxx, all sat down for about a hole minute then as all the other groups started to get there pens and everything out we just said right you two go to the dumpster down the road and we will go to the one in wellington, are method was get as much intresting stuff first then start to create an instalion around are objects instead around ideas which ment we might not be able to do if we cant find the right objects.

This was a printer we found and thought instantly we could use so i did a base coat of white spary paint then added gold to it which was really intresting to look at becuase it looks quite new and working when we actilly first found it, it was at the bottom of a pit broken badly.

This is Chris getting the boxes in the right positons.

Then me and Elliot started painting the base of are whole instaltion which really added in the long run we used royal blue and a matt white which really looked great.

This is what are instalation looked after about an hour and a bit of searching and decided what we shale do with are objects. this aready look really intresting and just feed us so many ideas to what we were going to do to it, we firstly thought we could make paper spewing out of it as if this golden printer is ohh soo too important for normalll paper. But then we thought we could make it a bit more art house and more querky, more contempery the better we thought.

We then found an old TV which we started to try to break down so it was simpler but then half way i was told to put my tools down by one of are tuters becuase theres radio active gases inside this era of TV! so we placed the TV above are magic printer and it looked really intresting and we wanted words printed on to it but that was too complicated so i came up with the idea get my polaroid and take some photos of my mate in a teletubby suit near trees and then place them onto the tv.

The tellytubby idea did develop a lot! and we ended up making the illusion that the tellytubby was being sucked up by the printer.

We really wanted to make are instalation as simplistic as possible, inspired by Brancusi. This was the near finished image then we added 2 small things the plack which says;

Then we added a small peice of metal running around are work to make it look as if it was in a real gallery which we did to make the point about consumerism.

Today has been my favourate day and something i really dont image my self doing becuase its not where my rare passion is but something i could easily do with a few good mates again just becuase its so much fun to clash artistic brains.

Friday Evaluation

This week has been a differant week than the others i have never really done textiles or typeography before so this was a new and wonderful experiance. i found typeography more intresting than textiles i think is because i could control my materal better than using a sewing machine! which was very treaky and you really have to think 3D way which i dont think is one of my strenghts but thats why i'm here to make all aspects of art my strenghts!

Typeography was really intresting and i got some differant ideas than i would usealy think of with the help of are group chat which i really benifited from. becuase i had another person or peoples opinion on the work which is a change becuase i usally just do it then get crited on it but this ment i didnt fall in the wrong direction and had helpful points to make my work the best it could be!

Pattern/Textiles was a differant experiance i think my final idea will be some type of piculiar bag with three sides to it i call it the 'triangle BAG!' wanted to explore differant ideas and not recrianal tradional ideas just because i dare to be differant but this is what most people were doing, not my triangle idea but the differant idea!

this week has once again been a good educational week and through the weekend i plan on taking a large amount of photos and start drawing people once again its been too long and i need to get my fingers back to there better standerd! and drawing is the essance of ART!

Typeography talks 4th Nov

Today we continued are typography and at 12:30 i a small group talk about my ideas and how i want to develop them. i have a few hours to coninue so i experimented with ideas and looked at age groups type and what type goes to certain groups like kids have blacks of letters toy blocks.

this idea was something i was thinking of doing, and i was going to just do one word all over same as each side.

Then i had the talk which i found really intresting and they sugessted i make them into blocks and paint them as if there going to kids but have really dark and meaning full words on. so i choose 6 new words which were, trust, sence, truth, death, child. then i added to make each word just one block colour so it could be  easily put together but at the same time can make many words.

Lecture; Video and online media. 3rd Nov

Firstly i'd like to say that Brendan Byrne is extremly exentric and slightly crazy but i found he was fasinating i got barly any notes but it was more of a performance than anything else! would constantly be laughing and moving and impervising and like we were having a normal convosation.

but what i did manage to get out of it was firstly looking at the website; www.vjtheory.net and this was just a intresting website about his projects.

then he talked a lot about a project Chris Miller built which uses Google Earth and a small bit of editing to get a really intresting movie show. you can watch on. www.thewildernessdowntown.com which is just amazing what tec can do now.

then at the end he said, 'meanings from one scene and another when they colid they create a greater meaning'

Tpyeography / message 2nd Nov

Firstly on Monday we were told to pic an image and then to write a small sentance about it then we had to pick five words from the sentence. my image and sentance was;

Emontion, Movement, Light, Colour these are what little boys are made for. those are the oginal words which can change but they give a basis to are typeography.

Typeography histeroy, Sans means no tails on letters often letters look like they look due to how they were first drawn using differnat methods of drawing eg, quill or pencil or pen etc.

typeography can and should need to become an image for ideas and alot of differant type faces go to;

www.ilovetypeography.com
www.dafont.com
www.1001fonts.com

in class today i did this;

Form And Texture 1st Nov

Today we did form and texture which is basicly fashion somehting i'm really intrested in because i want to do fashion photography so this will be very intresting and help me to know how to photograph differant cloths and know what do do about semes and how the dress is holds up right.

what we need to do for the fashion trail is; 2 A2 work sheets. Then create an object which fits with one of theses;

Inversable
performance movement
carnival animal
talerd extravagence
filled vessal

i chose talerd extravagance and was going to make a very picular bag for girls.

So for the next session i need to do another worksheet and work out how i am going to make this intresting 3 sided bag. triangle bag.

Friday Week Evaluation 29th Oct

this week has been a very intrsting becuase we have been doing something completly differnat than what we've been doing the other days. we have done woodwork, and pattern which are two areas of art i really have never done properly before i found pattern quite tedious and not very satersfiing when i had finished, but with woodwork i really found it quite intresting and really satisfiing andfun to get your hads dirty!

i found monday and thrusday the best days becuase i was doing woodwork and both days i felt i didnt waste any time what so ever was first in and last out. i think i was so intrested in woodwork becuase of the fact i have never done before and it was really quite simple the machines do it for us! we just have to know how to work them which was a long day but a day worth having :)

pattern like i said on tusday was not a fun just becuase i found it tedious because we had to copy.. and repeat and the combination of copy.. and repeat.. just makes me bored to be honist.

the lecture was intresting i found the part about Marc Quinn most intresting because i know him, i've been to his work space a few times and know him personaly so it was really nice to see his work shown off to a bunch of sudents like my self. i also found the Duchamp very intresting just because he was so ahead of his time! his work seems like contempery work of today!

ontop of all that work i went home the weekend before and took some really intresting image with my camera of my little brother on stilts and they came out really well something i think i will have to look further into.

Finishing Wood Work. 28th Oct.

Today we had to finish are object for wood work which ment it was quite an easy day for me becuase i had done so much extra work on the monday. so this ment i only needed to add a few things which was good becuase there was much less space today because there were two groups not just are group.

my oil burner, the extra work i did today was sharpen the edges sand it down in bits made the metal more curvy and sofend the edges. then added the peice of wood under it, this hold the candle walst the oil in the top and you burn it off. then after i had finished i went back to tuke and did some journal and photo editing.

Lecture; Post Modernism. 27th Oct

Firstly we had a preperation for are assement on the 15th of november the monday after my birthday.. so i need to really do alot of work for the next few weeks so i can still be able to have a large birthday getting quite excited but back on topic, we have to hand in all the work we have done in last few months.

(arts.ac.uk.awarding.htm)

just need to catch up on everything

  • all 2d work
  • all 3d work
  • all life drawing
  • journal
  • drawing books
  • any current work.
write about what we want to do next part of the course and the bibliography.

Post Modernism

Painting is 'washed up; Duchamp said in 1912, in abandenment... he said, 'i want sokmething where the eye and the hand count for nothing' which i think is a fantastic quote one that should always be thought of.

1960s + Marcel Duchamp fountain which is of a unrina.

Marcel Duchamp did these very contempery looking objects and painting in the 1920s (fountain 1917) which brought him years above the others of his era.

All of these links were taken 7th November 2010.

Pattern 26th Oct

Today we did pattern which i did not find too intresting! we started off with 2 nateral items and 2 man made objects which had there own pattern in them i chose a a crystal cup some ivy with red berrys and a smal intricute pattern on a  tea toul which was very neat. i liked drawing that object best becuase it had very free lines.

so we had to fill the page with are pattern ideas and just copy for the first quorter of the day, then after that we had to use those ideas and create are own patterns using them. then after that we had to get a A4 peice of paper and put all ideas and fill that for a print.

today was not as intresting as i thought it would be.. and i would have prefured it if she had told us what we were going to end up with becuase i did not have a great gathering of objects for my final patterned image.

Metal & Wood induction. 25th Oct.

Today we had are induction to the Kit room. firstly we were given the health and safety rules which pretty obvious wear glasses... wear gloves... always turn off the machine.

After this we were given a tour of all the equipment which took a long time because they showed us how to use everything. which was quite useful for some but most of them i had used before so was unneeded information. but still i have been out of practice down in the kit room so i guess its always good to be reminded.

big jigsaw.  This is used for cutting wood mostly, this can cut any size of wood and to adjust it you need to unscrew the leaver then you can choose the height you should always leave the high about 5mm above your piece of wood.
drill, we have to make sure its is sucurly tightened so the drill will not fall off and damage anything.
jigsaw This is the jigsaw this can cut very tight corners and very straight lines but can only work with quite thin materials because of its size.
Sander, This is for wearing down a peice of wood and giving it some corves if we want just smoothing it down.
round sander. This is very simlar to the sander but the round sander rotates round so if you put a small peice of wood on the end it just comes up it will fly off so you need to know what side to start on.
round saw. The round saw is exceltnt for cutting at right angles but you need to be very carful because this could easily take off your arm.
metal cutter/bender does what it says on the tin.
Metal jigsaw , this is the same as the normal jigsaw but is used for metal.
metal sander, This is the same as the sander but works with metal you should keep water near by becuase ur metal can get veryyyy hot.

For are project we were given;

  • metal rode
  • sheet of metal
  • aircraft ply wood
  • large peice of pine
  •  2 paper clips
  •  1 elastic band

This is the object i ended up making, its an oil burner. to make this i firstly had to get 3 legs and make them intresting, firstly i cut the plank into 3 equil sizes the first leg was sanded down a little the secon leg was rounded off so it was nearly a circle more like an egg shape and the thrid legg was 2 peices of wood put together to do this i had to make some nails which i did by cutting the metal rode and hammering it down into a nail shape then using the metal sander to make a sharp tip.

Then after this i needed 2 box shapes one for the oil and one for the candle to lie on. for the metal box it was quite easy i just used a hammer to make it have a lip in the middle and the ply wood is just a basic shape then i had to put them all together.

today was a really intresting day something i thought i would hate ended up one of my favourate days so far something i did not expect one bit.

Friday Week Evaluation 22nd Oct

this week has been very intresting and i found alot about my self that i dont think i could have learnt any other way. this week was quite a quet week and mostly indipendent work. This is what i learnt most i think because i found out that when i'm just told to do some work anything for a small assessment, i just went off and worked harder than any other day which was really intresting to see in my self i think from seeing this, this course is jsut going to get better and better becuase futher on the course we have more and more indepence which is just WHAT I WANT!

This week i found the lectures extremly boreing and nearly pointless so i dont think i want to talk about them becuase i know it will be just a negative section of my journal so i'm choosing just to ignore them. print making was alot of fun more than ever before becuase we were free down there and could really just do what we wanted which was a nice change from my sschool enviorment in the print room... then the best day was are own reasearch day which was just an eye opener.

this week has not been one of the best but i think i found most out about my self just the fact that i prefure being told to do work and leave it at that then for me to be able to go off on my own and forfill my task. and all the new methods i learnt i'll continue to use, a quite inspirering week but one that i think will lead to many of great weeks!

Mini Assessment Day. 20th oct

Today we had a mini assessment on what we were doing for the last 2 weeks. which was just using the objects on the table and creating something we have learn from any of the new methods we have learnt like, book making, painting, printing etc.

my project was mainly painting, and i did a few drawings of flowers and cups ( 18th oct is the finished project).

Then we had to take our journal and are sketch books into and had a quick chat talking to one of the staff mine was ilizer (sorry for spelling). Firstly i showed her my journal and my quick sketchs which all seemed well, then we got into the hard stuff she asked if i know what i wanted to do and where i wanted to go so i explained her my long tough goal. which goes; firstly become a fashion photographer aprentership, turn into a fastion photographer, go into art photography ( like bob carlos clarke) then go back to my real passion which is painting. with this ilizer seemed quite shocked that the youngest person on the coures had said this.

Reasearch Day 19th Oct

Today was are reasearch day where we had to develop are ideas we have had over the last few weeks so we could make a book or do more printing or painting etc. This is what i have really been wanting to do so i can show the tutors that i dont need them to motivate me to work and i can do it on my own and be equaly as productive or more so.

So today i continued my drawings and painting of my five objects which i have edited slightly and placed them into a flower patch which i did useing photoshop and all the drawings and painting were from this image;

From this image i produced a few drawings firstly just a basic copy in soft pencil then i did a water colour drawing from it then i did a line drawing of it and a charcoal image.

Then after this i did a drawing becuase i was feeling quite expressive which was going very well when i spent a large amount of time painting quite unlike how i usally paint but then neara to the end of the painting i went back to my old method which i love but just did not suit the image.. so i think i will have to back over this image. but still i think its an alright start but not finished :)

Print Making 18th Oct

Today we did printmaking which i have never been too keen on but today i found it quite soving and really quite intresting more due to amount of patterns and differnat methods we did and this really gave a viraety of images which is just more intresting than a stright print.

today my objects that i had cut outs of were, teddy bears, peppers, leafs and sissors. it was just a layering task which ended up being more about pattern than anything else. i used the theme of Autumn and teddy bears went on a picknick these were quite intresting and i was trying to get a sence of movement than anything else and pattern just oppeard walst i was doing this.

Friday lecture + Week Evaluation 15st Oct

Patrick Shanahan Photography

Hes got 30 years of experiance and is going to talk about about how times in photography has changed. he started talking to us about his recent exhibition and then went on how he started and all,

2009-10 Rupture; He was the ' fergot name' Gallery opening, he concentrats on the details of a landscape like the ground or small pebbles. he did this to draw atention on this tough area and the extent of polution still around. prodoinat colours are yeallow and oka.

Studnet Days 1976-1982: he used to do alot of insutration work so to show his teachers his work he had to photograph theses. But when he showed his teachers he said that the photos were better than hes instructures! so he started taking photos of his freinds then his freinds of freinds and so on. He said he liked to take peoples photos in there own enviroment which i find quite similar to me becuase i love photographing people being normal and as if they dont even know i have a camera like the William Klien photos in his New York collection. Then by his 3r year he stoped all the skulpure and instructures and just focused on photography. When he left college he got a job very quickly in liverpool as a photographer leclturer, which helped him in to ways firstly he got very close with the local gallery and he also learnt more about photography as he was lectureing about it all! He then decided to do a MA in the royal college of photography

His passion was working in colour and getting true colours seen by everyone! and the area which was getting he really intrested was landscape.

Editonal and advertising commissions 1982-1994; he worked for the royal acadimany magazine and weekend magazines. He also photographed fellow artists like Peter Blake. he also did a large amount of comerical work which was very good for money and did cross processing.

Personal Projects 1994+ his project called Esperantis lasted from 1998-2001 with this he  only photographed at night in spain because it started by not being able to photograph in the day because it was too hot so started at night and just worked so well. He got really intrested with artifially lit areas. then he did Amonentary Pressence 2002-2006 this is the sea very comerial style of photographing. then after that, that brings us back to the pressent.

Week Evaluation

This week has been really intresting and i have learnt so many new things some of which i hate and some of which i think i'll continue to love. i've felt very inspired after this week and have gone off to do some more art and photograph beautiful areas and just in a fantastic mood all round! firstly Monday, i really enjoyed making a book it was quite boreing and not extremly hard just took some hard concentration but was really satisfiing when we finished becuase we had something to take home and use! someting i think i might do again or i would hope i find the courage to do on my own! So this was one of the areas of my week that really effected me because i had no idea it would be so satisfiing making books and just learnt so much becuase in the back of my head i always thought that making a book would not be easy! Then on Tusday we did painting which is just my passion, so this was somehting i'd been wanting to do for a lonnnnng time just get some paint and some large paper and get EXPRESSIVE! but there were some rules so this wasnt as my dream had lead me on but still i was one with my paint brush again which was nice. we did two paintings but i didnt like both of mine the only image i liked was on a rough paper were we experimented with lines and had to draw 10 lines for some reason this was on of my favourate images so far! Then on Wednesday we had a complet contrast of the last few days in a lecture which made me so angry and bored... Making things.. i just found this terrible and a waste of my time becuase it tought me nothing. enough said on Wednesday onto Thursday was such a releif having a day of JUST photography something i really enjoyed and made me think about if i wanted to do that next year full time but the only bad thing about doing that means my fine art would just not be as strong so my inital plans are do a fine art degree with a photography course ontop but who really knows! Then that brings us to today and today was a very educational and expressive day firstly we had a great lecture the best so far in my opinion from Patrick Shanahan about photography then i went down to this old abandend house and photographed it was fantastic to get such raw images was very very cool. so this week has been one of my favourate apart from a mundamn Wednesday. but i've really started to get suck into my art again which is so nice being able to lose all my school methods of thinking of art and just start doing art again becuase I want to!

Painting 14th Oct

As we all walked into the room knowning that today would be one of the best days of the week, dave starts talking instantly, talking about how its all about your vision, with out that the camera is pointless which is great words of wisdom! But words that have been spoken a meny a time. then he started talking to us about how the camera works and everyone was issused with a Nikon D70 and i have the D90 at home so this was very very easy for me just becuase there setting were identilcal so was an extremly easy day for me. dave talked to us about hour talking about sutter and aperture and what we need to do and asked us if we usally use the camera in automatic we should only use manual and visa versa.

Then we were given an hour to photograph the items on the table which was very boring but i guess for people who didnt really know how to use a camera it was a useful task. then we went back had a breif chat about what he needs at the end of the day and thats just our favourate image in A4 sent to him. (email; DCLARKE@FALMOUTH.AC.UK). Then we were aloud to go off for lunch and come a bit late to give us more time to take photos.

Me and my freind james decided to go to the abandend pub to take photos of the glommyness and the broken. so we talked down there and took a large amount of photos.

I sent the 2nd last image to day.

Was a very inspirering day and something i feel like i could again and again!
